“Non-news” Bzdelik update

It appears that Aloha will not mean goodbye to Colorado for Jeff Bzdelik.

A report in an espn.com blog this week written by Andy Katz, who prefaced the item as a “non-news update,” had Bzdelik leaving CU for the NBA if the Minnesota Timberwolves offered him the team’s top assistant job.

On Friday, the Minneapolis Star-Tribune reported that Los Angeles Lakers assistant Kurt Rambis is expected to be the T-Wolves’ new head coach and that he plans to hire Boston Celtics general manager Dave Wohl as his top assistant.

Earlier this summer, Bzdelik self-reported a “casual” conversation he had with Minnesota general manager David Kahn about the vacant head coaching position to CU athletic director Mike Bohn.

Bzdelik was out of the office on Friday but will return to campus in about a week to begin preparing for the Buffs’ 2009-10 season.

Which means the third-year CU head coach will be saying Aloha to a daunting 2009-10 schedule that includes the program’s first trip to the prestigious EA Sports Maui Invitational.
