Bears or Buffs?

I was a little worried about the Buffs when a little bird told me last month that Northern Colorado handled Jeff Bzdelik’s team in a closed-door scrimmage at the Coors Events Center.

Now it looks like the Bears might be the best team in the state after improving to 7-0 with a victory over Colorado State in Greeley on Tuesday night.

UNC does have the best RPI (55) of any local team at the moment.

Air Force (72), Denver (121) and CSU (172) also rank ahead of CU (189), according to the computers.

The Buffs, however, will have plenty of chances to climb the rankings in the Big 12, which is currently second among all conferences in RPI.

Bzdelik’s boys play at CSU next week. It’s too bad some combination of Air Force, Denver and Northern Colorado aren’t also on the non-conference schedule.

Perhaps the Buffs will have a chance to settle the score against the Bears in the NIT?

Could happen if CU finishes with a winning record. Unless UNC wins the Big Sky and earns a trip to the NCAA Tournament.
