Burks is Big 12 freshman of the year

Those who have been following the Buffs all season at the Coors Events Center have known this for some time.

But now it’s official: Alec Burks is the Big 12 freshman of the year.

Burks, who became CU’s all-time leading freshman scorer on Saturday during the Buffs’ 101-90 victory over Texas Tech, is the first player in program history to earn the award.

Cory Higgins, CU’s leading scorer, was named third-team All-Big 12 for the second consecutive season. Burks was honorable mention All-Big 12.

More coverage to follow in Monday’s Camera and at buffzone.com.
