CU-Texas Tech, Part II

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Welcome to the opening round of the Big 12 tournament at the Sprint Center.

Colorado and Texas Tech will meet for the second time in four days to open the proceedings in a little an hour.

The Buffs, with a 15-15 overall record, need to win to be considered for the National Invitation Tournament. The winner of today’s rematch will face No. 1 Kansas on Thursday.

I like CU’s chances today for these reasons:

1. Jeff Bzdelik is a much more experienced coach than Pat Knight. CU’s adjustments after the 101-90 win in Boulder should be better than Texas Tech’s adjustments.

2. Cory Higgins and Alec Burks are playing as well as anyone in the Big 12 and both players love big moments like today.

3. The Red Raiders are a horrible defensive team. The Buffs are going to get good shots.

Regardless of what happens, next season could be a special one for CU men’s basketball. But being around the team I get the sense that they don’t want this season to end just yet.

Prediction: Colorado 78, Texas Tech 75
