Another native Buff sent packing

AMES, Iowa — I was sad to see the Denver Broncos’ announce their decision to release former Colorado standout Dan Graham when the news popped into my inbox a few minutes ago.

I had the pleasure of covering the Buffs during the 2001 season when Graham helped lead the program to its only Big 12 championship. I was also still covering the Broncos when they signed the former New England captain and Super Bowl champion as a free agent.

Graham’s father, Tom, was a standout linebacker for the Broncos and Dan’s homecoming — he played high school football at Thomas Jefferson — was a great story.

Unfortunately, it’s been a tough week or two for Denver-born ex-CU stars with Chauncey Billups getting traded from the Nuggets to the New York Knicks. …

I’m getting ready to head to Hilton Coliseum for CU’s critical Big 12 road finale against Iowa State.

The Cyclones’ only two conference wins were at home against Baylor and Nebraska and they are intent on finishing off the bubble-busting hat trick with a win over the Buffs on senior night.

I think CU is an NCAA Tournament-worthy team with stars Alec Burks and Cory Higgins and a great cast of role players (Levi Knutson, Andre Roberson, Marcus Relphorde, and so on).

They’ll prove it tonight.

Prediction: Buffs 82, Cyclones 77
