Alec Burks and his NBA peers are waiting for the lockout to end. They’ll probably still be waiting when the Buffs are playing Pac-12 games this winter.
But another ex-Buff standout from last season’s 24-win team, Levi Knutson, is already playing professional basketball.
In Spain.
Knutson recently signed a three-year contract with Cai Zaragoza and has been loaned to a team in Mallorca, a beautiful island in the Mediterranean, while adjusting to the European game.
There are certainly worse places to start a career. Or to take an extended honeymoon.
Knutson, an academic All-American and a lethal 3-point shooter at CU, graduated in May with a finance-business degree. He is also a newly wed, recently tying the knot with his longtime girlfriend Maura.
On a personal note, I enjoyed covering Levi during his four seasons in Boulder. He was always a standup guy, even when being interviewed after countless road losses during the rebuilding process.
It’s too bad Levi played through pain as a freshman and sophomore instead of taking a redshirt. Tad Boyle would certainly love to have Knutson around to help a young roster transition to a new conference.
That said, Knutson is living a pretty cool hoops dream.
