Picking the Buffs is not smart

Week 2 was a rough one for the old Under the Rim crystal ball.

I went a humbling 7-5 and fell to 0-2 picking the Buffs straight up.

Outside of Boulder, it was a surprisingly good week for the Pac-12, which went 6-1 against teams from other BCS conferences, including 3-0 against the Big Ten.

Meanwhile, Colorado lost to an FCS squad tabbed ninth in the preseason Big Sky poll.

Here’s the rewind:

Utah at Utah State

My prediction: Utes escape Logan with a 27-24 victory. Actual outcome: Utes upset in overtime, 27-20.

Even worse, Utah quarterback Jordan Wynn’s career is over due to injuries.

Southern Utah at Cal

My prediction: Bears bounce back, 40-14. Actual outcome: Bears bounce back, 50-31.

Cal plays at Ohio State this week. Good luck with that.

Eastern Washington at Washington State

Prediction: Mike Leach gets first win, 30-27. Actual outcome: Mike Leach gets first win, 24-20.

Not sure the Buffs could beat Eastern Washington, let alone Washington and Washington State.

Illinois at Arizona State

My prediction: Sun Devils win 34-28. Actual outcome: Sun Devils romp, 45-14.

Todd Graham off to a strong 2-0 start in Tempe.

Oklahoma State at Arizona

My prediction: No. 18 Pokes win 45-30. Actual outcome: Wildcats dominate, 59-38.

Before the season, Tucson looked like a good place for a CU road win. Now, not so much.

Duke at Stanford

My prediction: Cardinal wins, 27-17. Actual outcome: Cardinal wins big, 50-13.

Still not sure what to make of Stanford without Andrew Luck.

USC at Syracuse

My prediction: Trojans crush the Orange, 42-20. Actual outcome: Trojans dent the Orange, 42-29.

No. 2 is a good position for USC to be in. Let the spotlight shine on Alabama until January.

Wisconsin at Oregon State

My prediction: Badgers avoid upset, 31-27. Actual outcome: Badgers fall in Corvallis, 10-7.

Wisconsin fires offensive line coach after game. Classy.

Fresno State at Oregon

My prediction: Ducks win 50-20. Actual outcome: Ducks win 42-25.

I have a feeling Fresno State will take it out on a different Pac-12 team this Saturday.

Washington at LSU

My prediction: Tigers win comfortably, 32-17. Actual outcome: Tigers win easily, 41-3.

Huskies obviously have a long way to go to be back in the national championship hunt.

Nebraska at UCLA

My prediction: Big Red wins, 29-23. Actual outcome: Bruins win, 36-30.

Not exactly a Rose Bowl preview, but a terrific college atmosphere and game.

Sacramento State at Colorado

My prediction: Buffs notch first win, 38-17. Actual outcome: Buffs stunned, 30-28.

Just brutal.

My season record: 17-6 (.739)
